The first weekend of the 2023 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville is now in the books, with two events wrapped up so far from the nine tournaments on offer. The festival kicked off with a $100,000 guaranteed $400 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament that ran from Aug. 10-13.

Michael GiardinaA total of 890 entries were made across the six starting flights, smashing the guarantee to build a final prize pool of $289,250. When all was said and done, Michael Giardina came away with the title and the top payout of $47,237. This was the Virginia Beach, VA resident’s first recorded live tournament title.

The bestbet LIVE streaming coverage of the final table, available for replay below, began with nine players remaining. Right away, Alan Franco (9th – $4,917) got all-in with A-10 against the pocket queens of Pablo Valdivieso. Franco flopped aces up, but Valdivieso spiked a set on the turn and held from there to narrow the field to eight.

The next key clash saw Giardina pick up pocket aces against the pocket eights of Eric Chastain (8th – $6,074). Another preflop cooler looked to have Wendy Lu in trouble, but her pocket nines outflopped the pocket kings of Robert Terrel (7th – $7,520). The chips went in on the flop and Lu faded a king on the turn or river to score the knockout.

Le Tieu’s run in this event came to an end in sixth place when his button shove with J-2 was looked up by the A-K suited of Giardina. Le was drawing dead by the turn, earning $8,967. The 2022 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville mystery bounty third-place finisher now has more than $137,000 in career cashes to his name.

Patrick Demianenko (5th – $10,702) was the next to fall, with his A-6 running into the pocket queens of Giardina. Neither player improved and Giardina’s pocket pair earned him the pot and the knockout.

Valdivieso lost a flip against Lu to fall to the bottom of the chip counts. He then got his last eight big blinds in with 6-4 and was called by Christopher Harrington, who had K-J in the big blind. Harrington flopped trip jacks to seal the deal. Valdivieso went home with $14,462 for his fourth-place showing.

The final three ultimately agreed to a deal that redistribute the remaining prize money based on ICM. With the chip lead, Giardina secured the title and the largest payout of $47,237. Lu earned $38,577 as the runner-up, while Harrington secured $35,680 as the third-place finisher.
