Ari Engel won two World Series of Poker Circuit gold rings in consecutive events at the 2023 WSOP Circuit Graton Casino stop in Northern California. His back-to-back victories were enough to move him into a tie with Maurice Hawkins atop the tour’s titles leaderboard, with both players having come out on top in 15 WSOPC events in their careers.
Hawkins had retaken the lead with his fifteenth win earlier this year, emerging victorious in a $2,200 high roller no-limit hold’em event at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop in May.
Engel came into the first-ever running of the WSOPC Graton Casino stop tied with Dan Lowery for third place on the rings leaderboard with 13 wins each. Engel then topped a field of 61 entries in the $400 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event to secure $6,647 and his 14th ring. That victory moved him into a tie for second with Joshua Reichard.
The very next event on offer was another $400 buy-in. This time around, the game was pot-limit Big O. This event drew the same field size as the previous one with 61 entries. In the end, Engel scooped the last pot to lock up $6,564 and his record-tying 15th ring.
Engel, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner, now has more than $8.6 million in recorded tournament earnings to his name. He has recorded 173 in-the-money finishes in WSOPC events, totaling $1,001,122.
The 39-year-old poker pro has now made 20 final tables in 2023, accruing five titles along the way. He earned 116 total Card Player Player of the Year points for his two latest gold ring victories, bringing his point total to 2,356. As a result, he has climbed into 93rd place in the 2023 POY race standings presented by Global Poker.
