A total of 1,644 entries were made in the 2023 World Poker Tour Liechtenstein CHF 1,100 buy-in main event at Grand Casino Liechtenstein, setting a new regular-season WPT Prime record for field size. The strong turnout resulted in a prize pool worth more than $1.8 million when rendered in U.S. dollars. After six starting flights and two full days of combined-field action, Hungary’s David Kozma emerged victorious with the title and the top prize of $300,541.
This was by far the largest live tournament score yet for Kozma, nearly tripling his previous top payout of $105,000 earned for a runner-up showing in a $1,700 buy-in event at the 2022 Winter Poker Open at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. The Budapest resident now has more than $453,000 in recorded tournament earnings after his big win in the European principality located between Austria and Switzerland.
Kozma’s first-place payout also includes a $10,400 seat into the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
This victory conveyed 1,080 Card Player Player of the Year points upon Kozma, enough to move him inside the top 500 in the 2023 POY race standings presented by Global Poker.
The final day of this event began with 11 players remaining and Kozma in the lead. He remained well out in front when the field combined onto a single table. His first knockout at the final table came when his KJ outran the KJ, making a flush with four spades on board to eliminate Alessandro Pichierri (4th – $107,296).
He followed that up by busting Lukas Pazma in third place ($143,360), with his K-10 suited making tens and fours to best the J-9 of Pazma after all the chips went in preflop.
Heads-up play began with Marc Sen holding 26,600,000 to Kozma’s 22,900,000. The final two only battled for 22 hands before a champion emerged. Kozma moved into the lead in time for the final hand, which began with Sen limping on the button with A6 and Kozma checking his option with 65. The flop came down 862 and Kozma bet a single big blind. Sen raised to three big blinds and Kozma called. The turn brought the 5 and Kozma bet another three big blinds. Sen shoved for 15 big blinds and Kozma called with his two pair. The 5 river improved him to fives full of sixes, earning him the pot and the title.
Sen, a resident of nearby Switzerland, took home $193,200 as the runner-up finisher.
