The marquee tournament of the 2023 PGT Mixed Games II festival was the $25,300 buy-in ten-game championship. A total of 29 entries turned out for the high-stakes affair, creating a prize pool of $725,000. The top five finishers ultimately made the money, with the lion’s share of that prize money going to eventual champion Maxx Coleman. He took home $235,630 for the win, the fourth-largest score of his tournament career.
This victory increased Coleman’s career tournament earnings to more than $4 million. This was his ninth recorded title, including his two bracelet wins at the World Series of Poker over the years.
In addition to the title and the money, Coleman was also awarded 174 PokerGO Tour points as the champion. This was his second cash of the series, having also placed ninth in the $5,100 ten-game event earlier in the festival. With 188 total points, Coleman finished fifth in the PGT Mixed II series-long points race.
The second and final day of this tournament began with nine players returning to the PokerGO Studio inside ARIA Resort & Casino. Six-time bracelet winner Jeremy Aumsus was knocked out on the bubble, guaranteeing at least $50,750 for the remaining five contenders. That sum ultimately went to bracelet winner and recent dealer’s choice event champion of this series Dylan Weisman, who was sent to the rail in fifth place during a round of no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw lowball.
Six-time bracelet winner John Hennigan’s run in this event came to an event in a hand of no-limit hold’em. He shoved his short stack from the button with Q-6 suited and ran into A-K for bracelet winner Alex Livingston in the big blind. Livingston flopped kings and eights and held from there to eliminate Hennigan in fourth place ($79,750).
Three-time World Poker Tour champion and PokerStars Caribbean Adventure main event winner Chino Rheem was the next to fall. Rheem got all in with A-9 up against the pocket nines of Coleman. The pocket pair held up and Rheem was knocked out in third place ($116,000). This was Rheem’s fifth cash of the series, including a win in the $10,000 big bet mix. With $433,600 in total earnings during the festival, Rheem was crowned the series champion. In addition to securing the trophy, Rheem was also awarded a $25,000 championship bonus thanks to his impressive performance.
Heads-up play began Livingston holding 3,365,000 to Coleman’s 2,435,000. The final two struck a deal to restructure the payouts, locking up $220,630 for Coleman and $232,870 for Livingston while leaving $25,000 and the title to play for. The two went on to trade the lead multiple times.
Eventually, Coleman won a big pot with A-Q making the nut straight in limit hold’em to take roughly a 5:1 chip lead. Not long after that, with limit hold’em still the game, the last remaining bit of Livingston’s stack went in on a 1052 flop with Coleman holding J10 against Livingston’s A7. The Q turn and 4 river were no help to Livingston and he was eliminated in second place, earning the $232,870 that he negotiated for. The 2019 WSOP main event third-place finisher now has nearly $8 million in career tournament earnings after this latest deep run.
