The 2024 Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju is now in the books, and it was one for the record books. A total of 2,555 entries were made across the 17-event festival, with more than $102 million in prize money paid out along the way. The final event of the series was a fast-paced last-chance dance. The $20,000 short deck turbo drew 42 entries and took just a single day to play down to a winner. When the dust settled it was Stephen Chidwick hoisting the trophy.
This was the second Triton title for the 34-year-old poker pro from England. The $265,000 top prize he secured for the win increased his lifetime earnings to more than $57 million. He remains in third place on poker’s all-time money list, trailing only Justin Bonomo ($65,537,214) and Bryn Kenney ($65,448,407). More than $19.7 million of Chidwick’s total tournament scores have come from his 37 cashes in Triton events.
In addition the the hardware and the money, Chidwick also secured 360 Card Player Player of the Year points for this victory. The two-time POY award winner has already made 10 final tables and won two titles this year With 2,528 total points and nearly $1.6 million in to-date POY earnings, he has joined the top ten in the 2024 POY race standings presented by Global Poker.
Chidwick overcame a stacked final table on his way to the title, outlasting the likes of ten-time bracelet winner and five-time Triton champion Phil Ivey (7th), World Poker Tour champion Seth Davies (6th), 2023 top tournament earner Isaac Haxton (5th), two-time bracelet winner Daniel Dvoress (4th), and recent Triton pot-limit Omaha event winner Quan Zhou (3rd).
The final heads-up battle pitted Chidwick against two-time Triton champion Tan Xuan, who was just a few days removed from his win in the $50,000 short deck main event at this festival for $922,000. Chidwick held a narrow lead when the decisive pot arose. All of the chips went in with Zuan’s A-K leading Chidwick’s A-10, but a ten-high flop turned the tables. Chidwick held from there to take a massive lead, and moments later closed out the win. Xuan earned $191,000 as the runner-up, increasing his career earnigns to nearly $9.4 million in the process.
