Martin Dam had never entered a Triton Poker event prior to making the trip to the Maestral Resort & Casino in Montenegro for the latest stop. The 27-year-old Danish player had an impressive first showing, cashing in three of the four events he entered while accruing $501,000 in earnings. Dam saved the best for last. In the final event of the series, he emerged victorious from a field of 41 entries as the champion of the $30,000 buy-in pot-limit Omaha turbo bounty event. He was awarded his first Triton title, $250,000 in prize money, and another $280,000 in bounty payouts.
“Honestly, the experience has been amazing,” Dam told Triton reporters when asked about his debut on the tour. “You really get a better experience here. Everything is just amazing. I feel great.”
Dam’s entire slate of events at this Triton Montenegro stop consisted of pot-limit Omaha tournaments, which is consistent with his prior record. Dam now has 14 recorded tournament scores in his career, with all but two coming in PLO events. This latest victory grew his total earnings to $996,000.
This event took just a single day to play out. The 41-entry turnout built a total prize pool of $1,230,000. Only the top seven finishers earned a piece of the main prize pool, including bracelet winner Ronald Keijzer (7th – $42,000), ten-time Triton champion Jason Koon (6th – $51,000), six-time bracelet winner Brian Rast (5th – $67,000), and Biao Ding (4th – $87,000).
World Poker Tour champion and bracelet winner Dylan Linde made his fifth cash of the festival. His run ended in third place when his single-suited pocket aces were unable to fend off the double-suite queen-high rundown of Dam. The board gave Dam a flush to send Linde to the rail with $114,000.
That left Dam heads-up with two-time Card Player Player of the Year award winner Stephen Chidwick, who was at a massive chip disadvantage. Chidwick managed an early double up, but was soon all-in and at risk again. This time Dam flopped a set and held from there to bring the tournament and the festival to a close.
Chidwick earned $179,000 as the runner-up. This was his 16th final-table finish of the year, with four titles won and more than $2.9 million in POY earnings accrued along the way. He now sits in third place in the 2024 POY race standings presented by Global Poker.
