Canadian rapper Drake has been cheering on his home team in the Copa America series and that included a massive bet on the squad’s semifinal matchup with Argentina and Lionel Messi on Tuesday. He bet $300,000 on Canada to come out on top and would bank almost $2.9 million if that happened.

Canada surprised many with a deep run through the top men’s soccer tournament for national teams from North and South America, but Argentina was the favorite among bettors, entering the tournament at -125.

By contrast, Canada sat at +2500 entering the series, but found a win over Peru, a draw against Chile, and a win on penalty kicks against Venezuela to advance to the semifinals. Ultimately, the Argentine squad proved to be too much and moved on to the finals with a 2-0 win, which included a goal from Messi and Julian Alvarez.

That meant a six-figure loss for Drake.

Argentina was set to play the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Uruguay and Colombia with the final set for Sunday. But even with a looming match, the squad hit back a bit at the rapper by posting a message on Twitter referencing a diss track criticizing the rapper, which was released by Kendrick Lamar in May.

Drake has been known for some massive sports betting wagers through the years, including betting $1 million on Argentina to win the World Cup in 2022, but he still came out a loser on his wager as the match went to overtime and finished in penalty kicks. That was considered a draw based on traditional soccer betting. He also lost $275,000 on the UFC’s Jorge Masvidal to beat Colby Covington.

In the past, Drake won $559,000 on Super Bowl wagers on the Rams to win and on Odell Beckham Jr. to score a touchdown. A $159,000 bet on the Golden State Warriors to finish atop the NBA’s Western Conference also brought a nice return of $650,000.
