Clement Richez has saved the best for last at each of the past two World Series of Poker festivals. In 2023 he ended the summer with a 50th-place finish in the main event for $188,400, which was his largest payday yet at the time. The French player topped that in 2024 by taking down the $3,000 buy-in mid-stakes championship no-limit hold’em event, besting a field of 3,177 total entries to earn $1,041,989 and his first bracelet.

Richez now has nearly $1.5 million in recorded tournament earnings, with nearly all of that coming from his dozen cashes in WSOP bracelet events.

This was Richez’s first final-table finish of 2024, but the 1,800 Card Player Player of the Year points he earned as the champion in this tournament were enough to move him into 138th place in the overall POY standings presented by Global Poker.

The top 477 finishers made the money in this event to earn a piece of the $8,482,590 prize pool. Plenty of big names made it down to the final few tables, including Michael Soyza (24th), World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour main event winner Andrey Pateychuk (7th), Taylor Black (6th), Alec Torelli (3rd), and Adam Owen (2nd).

Owen knocked out Torelli to enter heads-up play with the lead. Richez was able to battle his way out in front, and then won a big pot without showdown to build nearly a 4:1 chip advantage. Owen managed a double up to close the gap a bit, but was soon all-in and at risk again. His QSpade Suit3Spade Suit trailed the KHeart Suit9Heart Suit of Richez. The board came down KDiamond Suit7Diamond Suit6Club SuitJDiamond Suit10Spade Suit and Richez made a pair of kings to lock up the pot and the title.

Owen earned $694,714 as the runner-up. This was the third-largest score of the British poker pro’s career. He now has more than $4.5 million in career earnings to his name.

Here is a look at the payouts and rankings points awarded at the final table:
