For the country’s major online gaming markets, revenue figures continued to rise in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in June while Michigan saw some slides.
Online sports betting also took some hits this month and online poker remained mostly unmoved. Here’s a look at the numbers.
Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported combined total revenue from all forms of gaming in June was $472 million, a 7.2% increase from June 2023. Total tax revenue from all forms of gaming reached $198 million.
Online casino gaming saw monthly gross revenue of $160.6 million, up 18.6% from $135.4 million last June. Here’s a look at revenue by category:
● Online slots – $119.4 million
● Online table games – $39 million
● Online poker – $2.2 million (down from $2.3 million in May)
For online sports betting, the state saw total handle of $464.5 million in June, a 24.5% increase from the same month in 2023 ($373.2 million). Total taxable revenue was $29.9 million, up 29.6% compared to June 2023 ($23.1 million).
New Jersey
The Garden State’s nine casinos saw revenue of $244.1 million in June, just a 1% increase compared to $241.6 million in June 2023, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. Year-to-date revenue stands at $1.36 billion, essentially flat compared to 2023.
Online gaming told a different story, reporting $186.8 million, a 25.2% jump from $149.3 million last June. Year to date, online gaming accounted for revenue of $1.13 billion, up 21.4% from $930.8 million last year. Online poker was about the same as last June at $2.5 million.
Sports wagering gross revenue totaled $60.1 million, dropping 9.5% compared to $66.4 million in 2023. Gross revenue reached $573.1 million year to date, a 30% increase compared to $440.8 million last year.
Total revenue from all forms of gaming equated to $491 million in June, a 7.4% increase from $457.2 million in 2023. Year to date, total gaming revenue was $3.06 billion, a 12.2% increase from $2.73 billion in the prior year-to-date period.
Michigan
The Wolverine State saw $214.1 million in online gaming and sports betting gross receipts in June, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, a decrease of 10.6% from May.
Online gaming alone totaled $183.2 million and with sports betting checking in at $30.9 million, down from $198.6 million and $40.9 million respectively.
Combined total adjusted gross receipts were $136.4 million, including $164.56 million from iGaming and a negative $28.21 million from sports betting. This represents an iGaming drop of 7.9% and a sports betting decrease of $56.3 million compared to last month.
This $56.32 million decrease was due in part to a $48.2 million free-play deduction taken by MGM Grand Detroit/BetMGM. Compared to June 2023, iGaming AGR was up 20.2% and sports betting was down $37.4 million. Total June online sports betting handle reached $276.8 million, down 19.5% from $343.7 million in May. Operators submitted $35.5 million in taxes and payments to the state in June.
