Former professional hockey player Roman Hrabec is having a massive year on the poker tournament circuit. He has won three titles so far in 2024, with his latest being a victory in the kickoff event of the 2024 Super High Roller Bowl Series. Hrabec beat out a field of 39 entries in the $25,750 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament to earn $316,000.

Hrabec two other wins this year include earning his first World Series of Poker bracelet as the champion of the WSOP Online $333 buy-in event and for taking down a massive $100,000 buy-in high roller at the Triton Jeju festival for $4,330,000.

The WSOPO victory did not award Card Player Player of the Year points, but Hrabec did earn 336 for his latest triumph. With 3,571 total points and more than $5.5 million in to-date POY earnings, the Czech poker pro is now the 25th-ranked player in this year’s POY standings presented by Global Poker. He also secured 190 PokerGO Tour points after coming out on top.

The 39-entry turnout to this kickoff event of the SHRB series being held at Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in Cyprus resulted in a $955,500 prize pool, with only the top six finishers making the money.

Bracelet winner Sam Greenwood eliminated Maksim Vaskresenski (6th – $62,000), onmly to bust in fifth himself when his J-10 clashed with the A-J of Kayhan Mokri. Greenwood earned $83,000 for his efforts.

Santhosh SuvarnaGermany’s Leonard Maue soon followed after losing a race with Q-J against the pocket fives of two-time bracelet winner Santhosh Suvarna. Maue settled for $116,500 as the fourth-place finisher.

Another classic coin flip left Mokri in rough shape, with his A-K losing to the pocket nines of Hrabec. Mokri was left short and was soon eliminated by Suvarna in third place ($158,000).

Heads-up play began with Hrabec holding more than a 2:1 lead over Suvarna. The final hand pitted A-2 against the pocket kings of Hrabec. Suvarna flopped a deuce but improved no further. He earned $220,000 as the runner up, along with 280 POY points and 132 PGT points. With 1,330 total points, Suvarna is now the tenth-ranked player in the 2024 PGT season-long standings. This latest strong showing grew his career tournament earnings to more than $13.9 million.
