November Online Gambling Brings In Record Numbers

A Look At Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan

November gambling produced record revenues for some of the country’s learning online gaming states in November. That included a new record for all forms of gaming and sport betting handle in Pennsylvania and new online gaming and sports betting highs in Michigan.

Online poker remained mostly flat in Pennsylvania while finding a nice bump in New Jersey. Here’s a look at the complete November report.

Pennsylvania

The Keystone State produced a record $562.4 million in total revenue from all forms of gaming in November, a 26% increase from November 2023, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Online casinos accounted for $200.5 million of that compared to $158 million in November 2023, a 26.88% jump. Here’s a breakdown of iGaming by category for November:

  • Slots – $148.7 million (up 36%)
  • Table games – $49.6 million (up 6.7%)
  • Poker – $2.3 million (down 0.12%)

For sports betting, Pennsylvania saw a record monthly handle high of $935.5 million, 0.15% above $934.1 million for the same month last year. That produced total taxable revenue of $77.1 million, 498% higher than $12.8 million in November 2023. Online wagering produced $71.7 million while live sportsbooks brought in $5.4 million. Total tax revenue from all forms of gaming was $232.8 million for November.

New Jersey

The nine casinos in the Garden State saw revenue of $223.9 million for November, a 4.2% jump compared to $214.9 million in 2023, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. Year-to-date casino revenue now totals $2.59 billion, a 1.1% decrease from the same period in 2023.

Live gaming edged out online gaming revenue after iGaming surpassed the state’s live revenue in October for the first time. Online gaming produced $214 million in November, surging 24.7% from $171.6 million last year. Online operators have collected $2.16 billion year to date, a 23.8% jump from $1.74 billion in 2023.

Sports wagering revenue totaled $119 million for November, a 24.1% increase compared to $95.9 million last November. The year-to-date figure stands at $1.03 billion, a 15% increase from $897.2 million last year. Online poker moved up to $2.3 million, a 12.7% increase from November 2023.

Total revenue from all forms of gaming reached $556.9 million, a 15.4% increase from $482.4 million in November 2023. Year to date, total gaming revenue is up to $5.78 billion, a 9.9% increase from $5.26 billion reported in the prior period.

Michigan

The Wolverine State’s commercial and tribal operators reported $284.3 million in online gaming and sports betting revenue in November, up 12.1% from October, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board. iGaming totaled $226 million, a new record topping previous high of $220.7 million from October. November gross sports betting receipts equated to $58.3 million, an increase from $33 million in October.

Combined total iGaming and online sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for November were $240.4 million, including $203.3 million from iGaming and $37.1 million from sports. This was an iGaming increase of 2.4% and a sports betting jump of $27.2 million from October. Compared to November 2023, iGaming AGR was up by 28.9% and sports betting was up by $36.8 million.

Total sports betting handle reached $650.2 million, a record high and a bump of 16% from $560.4 million in October. Online operators submitted $44.4 million in taxes and payments to the state in November, and tribal gaming groups made $5.2 million in payments to governing bodies.
