Poker pros who share a love of gambling and high stakes golf will make up the six players for next week’s Poker After Dark (PAD), so viewers should prepare for entertaining tales from the golf course as the players compete in this winner-take-all $20,000 buy-in tournament.
World Poker Tour Player of the Year winners and close friends Gavin Smith and Erick Lindgren will be featured at next week’s table. These two have been known to make huge prop bets on the golf course. This summer, Smith bet against Lindgren completing four rounds of golf shooting under 100 from the pro tees with no caddy or golf cart. With a few others betting against him, Lindgren reportedly won more than $300,000 for completing the task.
Another player who bet against Lindgren who will also be at this table is Phil Ivey. The five-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner has often been referred to as “The Tiger Woods of Poker,” as his skills at the poker table comparably dominate in his profession. Ivey has also been dominating PAD tournaments, as well, and will be looking to become the only player to own three PAD titles.
Daniel Negreanu, who is third on the all-time money list for tournament poker, and 10-time WSOP bracelet winner Doyle Brunson will round out the table with one PAD title each. Along with Smith, David Oppenheim will be making is debut on PAD. He is known for being one of the best limit high-stakes cash game players in the world.
All the players at the table, with the exception of Smith, showed their golf skills off on ESPN’s inaugural High Stakes Entertainment Golf Tour.
Card Player TV caught up many of these players during the filming of the ESPN episodes. Click here to view that video, which features these pros in their “golf element.”
The five-episode tournament begins airing on Tuesday Jan. 8, 2008 at 2:05 a.m. on NBC and continues each day in the same time-slot with the final episode airing on Saturday. On Sunday at 1 a.m., a special "director's cut" episode will recap the week's action.
