SpadeClub Poker: HodgeD's Tales From the TablesSpadeClub Exclusive Member HodgeD Tells Card Player About Being a Member of SpadeClub |

SpadeClub, the new way to win, is an innovative poker community that enables poker enthusiasts to network and compete for more than $100,000 every month. SpadeClub promotions offer additional benefits to its members, such as publishing Tips and Tales on how to succeed at SpadeClub. Hear what SpadeClub Exclusive member David “HodgeD” Hodge has to say about his wins, what helps him, and why he loves playing on SpadeClub:
Months of beta testing and four weeks of regular action culminated last month on Card Player magazine’s new site, SpadeClub. It was the first $40,000 monthly tournament to be run, and I was a part of it. SpadeClub is not only a new site, but it also offers a new format that allows everyone who wishes to play poker at a competitive level a haven to not only practice and get better, but to win some real money! In mid-February, I made my first monthly membership payment of $19.99 (the only fee required to play all tournaments), and on this evening, I would go on to place third in the $40,000 Mega Monthly event and cash in for $4,000. Final table poker takes a lifetime to master, and I’m happy to say that, with a combination of good advice from friends (shout out to Tyler “Q-10” Hurlbut and Mario Scrano) and the very cool Hand Helper feature provided by the SpadeClub, I was able to enter the final table in ninth place and finish in third.
The Hand Helper is a great tool to utilize, especially in tough situations. It’s the difference between a fourth- and fifth-place finish, which, in this situation, was more than $1,000. There were multiple spots toward the end of the tournament where I had to evaluate the strength of cards quickly and accurately. That’s easy to do on your own with a full table, but when six players remain and the stakes are high, you want to know quickly how 10-9 suited in middle position fares. The Hand Helper does the work for you! You enter the number of players, the hand, and your position, and it spits out the strength like a Magic 8 Ball. I actually went against it only one time. I had A-Q suited, which is a premium hand, and the Hand Helper agreed, but something felt wrong, so, I laid it down to a big raise, only to be shown aces shortly afterwards.
SpadeClub is a revolutionary poker community, and I use the word “community” because it is hands-down one of the friendliest sites around. The group of players is relatively small at this point, so you see a lot of the same players in all of the tournaments. As a result, I tend to speak to those players more and more each time. One of the most unique features of SpadeClub is badges, which you earn by making final tables, winning tournaments, and knocking other players out. The more you play and the more you win, the more brass you add to your chest. You can pick your own avatar photo, too. You can blog about your daily, weekly, or monthly action. Every day there are multiple cash tournaments, there is a weekly $5,000 event, and, as previously mentioned, the monster $40,000 monthly event.
I had some fears when starting to play on this site, the worst of which being overflow of people. I’m happy to say the $40,000 included fewer than 600 entrants. You see, on SpadeClub, you have to use your allotted points (which are refilled daily) to play qualifiers and earn your way into the bigger tourneys. This prevents (for the most part) a lot of the bad play you find in most “play money” games. WPT Boot Camp qualifiers were even announced, recently. You are always playing for something, and that, my friend, is the very essence of poker. So, to finalize, you play all of the poker you want for $19.99 a month, make friends, play and learn new poker strategies, and have the chance to cash big every single month. What are you waiting for? Come get some action!
