The PokerStars European Poker Tour event in San Remo, Italy, continues today, and will progress until the last chip is in the hands of the last player on Saturday. That player will take home $1.3 million. The buy-in of the event was €5,000, or approximately $7,200.

The first EPT event ever to be held in Italy attracted 700 players. This afternoon, after two day ones, there are fewer than 100 players left. The day started with 207 players. Those left include (chip counts are approximate) Todd Brunson (163,000) and Rolf Slotboom (52,000). The chip leader is Han Heitmann, with 211,000.

The event started with about half of the tournament field Tuesday with day 1A. The rest of the field began the tournament on Wednesday. The tourney is taking place at the Casino San Remo and is the 10th tourney of the 11 scheduled for the fourth season of the PokerStars EPT.

The EPT Grand Final, a €10,000 buy-in event, will take place April 12-17. This is one of the largest events of the year, thanks to the surging popularity of poker in Europe and the thousands of qualifiers that run around the clock for EPT events, not to mention the exchange rate. For Americans, this event will cost about $15,600 using today’s exchange rates, building a prize pool in the millions of dollars.

Qualifiers for the EPT Grand Final are now taking place at PokerStars. Click here to take advantage of a deposit bonus for PokerStars offered through CardPlayer.com.
