An invitation-only tournament filled with 120 celebrities will take place at the San Manuel Casino in southern California Thursday, May 8 to raise awareness in the Los Angeles area for Don Cheadle and Annie Duke’s Ante Up for Africa organization.
Cheadle and Duke are scheduled to attend the event, which will take place to shine a light on the humanitarian crisis that’s taking place in Darfur and will act as a sister tournament to the publicly-held Ante Up for Africa tournament that will take place at the World Series of Poker for the second time this summer.
The tournament raised $700,000 for the non-profit Ante Up for Africa organization at the WSOP last year. The charity made such a killing thanks to the final two players, Dan Shak and Brandon Moran. They donated their entire payouts to Ante Up for Africa. The charities that benefited last year when 167 players played were the Enough Project and the International Rescue Committee.
This year’s tournament is set to take place Wednesday, June 2 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Resort. The buy-in is $5,000, and preregistration is now taking place at the WSOP preregistration website.
The event on May 8 at San Manuel features a silent auction and a chance to mingle with the Hollywood poker celebrities who show up to support the cause. Besides Cheadle and Duke, a list of locked-in players was not announced. The tournament is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
