Online Poker: Events No. 12, 13, and 14 of the FTOPS VIIIThree More Events, Three More Champions |
|
Tuesday was an action-packed day of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) VIII. The normal daily schedule calls for two events, but Full Tilt took it a step further yesterday, adding a third event on one of the busiest days of the online poker work week. H.O.R.S.E. finally made its first appearance of the series, and two other hold’em events rounded out the night.
Event No. 12 — No-Limit Hold’em (1 rebuy, 1 add-on)
The first event of the day was a no-limit hold’em tournament with an optional rebuy and add-on. The buy-ins were in increments of $200, and after 961 entrants, 694 rebuys, and 621 add-ons, the prize pool ballooned to $455,200, more than $150,000 over its guarantee.
The tournament was hosted by the man with the monkeys, Full Tilt pro Lee Watkinson. Watkinson busted fairly early on and only Steve Brecher was able to represent with a cash. Other notables to make the money included WHENTHUGSCRY, Matt “NoBadBeatsPlz” Kay, Derek “DSnyder766” Snyder, Matt “mattster24” Sterling, Thomas “ChuckSty” Rau, Adam “adammc” McGregor, and Steve “gboro780” Gross.
Jonathan “shipitobv” Delong increased his ranking in the 2008 Online Player of the Year (OPOY) race by finishing in seventh. His cash bumps him from 18th place in the standings to 15th. After taking second in event No. 10, Madame Maria came back strong to make a final table once again, this time finishing in eighth place. When it was all over, DaEvils took out DERAJ21 heads up for the title.

Event No. 13 — H.O.R.S.E.
The second event of the day was a $500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament. The large buy-in attracted 607 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $303,500, just barely beating out the $300,000 guarantee. This is the closest an event has come to not meeting its guarantee so far this series.
The event was hosted by Full Tilt pro David Singer, who final tabled the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at the WSOP in both years of its existence. Singer failed to cash, but fellow men in red Jens Voertmann and Jeff Madsen finished within the final 64 players to earn themselves a modest payday. Other notables to finish in the money included Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Andy “BKiCe” Seth, Carl “colson10” Olson, Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade, and fkscreenames, who won the FTOPS main event in the sixth installment of the series.
Bennett “Magic Aces” Greenstein just got in to the final table, and, interestingly enough, all of his OPOY-eligible cashes have come in H.O.R.S.E. Eventualy, the aviator1 captured his first FTOPS victory, the customized jersey and avatar, and a first-place prize of more than $70,000.

Event No. 14 — No-Limit Hold’em Turbo
The third and final event of the night was a quick four-hour affair. It was a $200 no-limit hold’em turbo event. The event featured five-minute blinds and attracted 2,140 entrants, to generate a $428,000 prize pool.
Full Tilt pro Mandy Baker hosted, and fellow red-named pros Chris Klecz, Scott Fischman, and Berry Johnston all made the money in 234 paying places. Other notables to cash included Eric “sheets” Haber, Carl “colson10” Olson, Paul “comeonphish1” Lieu, Rami “Arbianight” Boukai, Johan “busto_soon” Til, Lucas “Beaver Feaver” Rifkin, ShiP ThA LooT and rkruok.
Notable online professional Matt “MattSuspect” Molinari made a run at the top spot, but eventually faltered in third place. The winner was dud711, who bested OneUponAStar in their heads-up match.
