The fifth leg of the 2008 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, sponsored by BlueSquarePoker.com, kicks off this afternoon at the Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle, and runs through until Sunday. Marc Goodwin will be looking to follow up his win in Manchester with another strong showing, while runner-up Nik Persaud will be looking to become the first player to make four GUKPT main event final tables.
These two now head the tour’s leader board, but Brighton winner Julian Thew is not far behind in third place. Whoever finishes at the top of the leader board at the end of the year will take away a massive £10,000 bonus, courtesy of Blue Square.
A number of side-events will run in tandem with the four-day £1,000 main event, including a £300 no-limit hold'em freezeout tournament on Saturday evening.
