A new sponsorship deal by LittlewoodsPoker.com will see former Eastenders actor, Michael Greco representing the English company in live tournaments, including this years European Poker Tour.
Greco will also take part in online tournaments, where players will often be offered the opportunity to claim a £250 bounty for knocking him out.
Greco’s poker career has gone from strength to strength since he began playing in 2002, and over the years he has gained respect from some of the better known names in poker, proving that he is not just another celebrity turned wannabe-poker star.
He says, “There aren’t many great celebrity poker players around and I think some professionals are a bit sceptical of them, so it’s great that I’ve been given the chance to show what I can do. As an actor, I have a great advantage as I can bluff very well and I can either hide my tells or create false ones. Poker pros are also terrible actors, so you can usually tell what they’re trying to hide and use that to your advantage.”
His biggest tournament win came last year, when he took down £100,000 in a GUKPT event. He also recently beat 597 opponents to finish in ninth place with $22,573 in the $2,000 pot-limit hold’em event at this year’s World Series.
Bruce Martin, Head of Operations with LittlewoodsPoker.com, said, “We’re delighted to be sponsoring Michael for the new EPT tour. Not only is he a household name, but he is also a very good, and well-respected, player on the poker tour.”
Greco will be joined on the EPT by the company’s other sponsored player, football legend Tony Cascarino.
