The Ladies International Poker Series event at the Legends of Poker was won by Barbara Enright after she triumphed over a field of 100 women — and John Vorhaus.

Best known for her fifth-place finish in the 1995 World Series of Poker main event, Enright has nearly $1.3 million in tournament winnings. For this $340 buy-in event, she snagged just under $11,000 and another ladies-only event title.

In this case, however, it wasn’t technically a ladies-only field. Because of non-discrimination laws in California, LIPS is not legally allowed to refuse male entrants. However, this time, LIPS Founder Lupe Soto and Kelly O’Hara of the Bicycle Casino both gave him their blessings to enter.

Dressed in drag, Vorhaus placed seventh in the event. A world-renowned writer and poker journalist, Vorhaus wanted to cover the subject of men playing in women-only tournaments. “Being the intrepid journalist that I am, I decided to go ahead and play in it myself,” said Vorhaus.

Vorhaus’ full report on the issue and event will be featured in the next issue of Card Player magazine. For more complete results on this event, go to the Legends of Poker results page under the Tournaments tab at CardPlayer.com.
