2008 Borgata Poker Open Begins Today

The WPT Championship Event Features a Gauranteed Prize Pool of $5 Million

The first preliminary event at the 2008 Borgata Poker Open, hosted at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey, begins today. It is a $300 no-limit hold’em tournament that is the first of 12 events leading up to the World Poker Tour $10,000 championship event, which begins on Sunday, Sept. 14. This tournament series will feature 15 preliminary events in addition to the WPT championship event, with the final preliminary event starting on Sept. 16.

Roy WinstonThe WPT championship event will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million. Last year, 560 entrants participated in the WPT event, and Roy Winston won $1,575,280 when he defeated Heung Yoon in a long heads-up battle to take home the title.

Here is a look at the schedule for the WPT championship event:

Sunday, Sept. 14: Day 1 (starts at 11 a.m. EDT)
Monday, Sept. 15: Day 2 (starts at 11 a.m. EDT)
Tuesday, Sept. 16: Day 3 (starts at 11 a.m. EDT)
Wednesday, Sept. 17: Day 4 (starts at 11 a.m. EDT)
Thursday, Sept. 18: Final table (starts at 4 p.m. EDT)

In addition to 12 preliminary no-limit hold’em events, with buy-ins ranging from $300-$5,000, the Borgata Poker Open will also feature a $300 ladies no-limit hold'em event on Sept. 7, a $300 limit hold’em event on Sept. 7, and a $300 seven-card stud event on Sept. 8, in addition to the $10,000 WPT championship.
