A recent survey undertaken by CircusCasino.com questioned 1,000 players from England to find out what profession they thought would make the best poker player, and who they would have nightmares about sitting on the opposite side of the felt.
In regards to the profession who they thought would have the most poker skills, actors came out on top with 29 percent of the vote because of their ability to bluff, but hot on their heels were stockbrokers, who are known to have skills in the gambling and speculation department. Politicians were third with 13 percent, largely due to the fact people think they are good liars, and following them were accountants with 11 percent because of their mathematical minds. At the bottom of the list but still in the ‘game’ were public speakers/comedians with 6 percent due to their skilful speech-play.
The players were also asked who they would least like to play against, and the winner of that poll was Brit Sir Alan Sugar with 22 percent. Dragons Den member Duncan Bannatyne and the very intellectual Professor Stephen Hawking followed suit with a joint 20 percent, and only a percent behind them was hot-headed chef Gordon Ramsey. The celebrity with the least votes was Sir Trevor McDonald with a short-stacked 12 percent.
Peter Nolan, Managing Director of CircusCasino.com, said, “Interestingly, actors and those working in the film industry are often great poker players — Jamie Gold, the Hollywood director, won a massive $12 million at the 2006 World Series of Poker, while the likes of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are highly respected international players. Stockbrokers deal in numbers every day, and you could say theirs is an art of betting too — so it’s no surprise that both these professions are top of the most feared list.
