Duplicate Poker, the online poker site that featured a unique take on online tournament poker, has shuttered its operations. Players who opened up the website starting yesterday were greeted with a message announcing its closing, blaming current global financial situations.

The page now reads:

Dear players,

Duplicate is sadly bidding farewell to its players. Caught in the middle of the global financial situation, the company is not able to continue to provide service. We are a small victim of the global financial crisis.

Regretfully, as of the today, October 5th, 2008 we are closing our service. We thank our players for being with us. Hopefully at later time and in a better economic climate Duplicate Poker will re-appear.

Sincerely,
The Duplicate Poker Team

Below that message is a method for players to cash out their current account balances using their username and password. Existing members should go to DuplicatePoker.com to cash out.

Duplicate Poker spread tournaments where multiple different players at different tables received the same starting hands and saw the same flops, and the players were competing to win as much (or lose as little) as they could with the same hand so that their skill at playing the game could be more precisely measured as a game of skill. The site launched in 2006 as e-Poker USA, but never seriously competed with the mega-sites that spread the traditional games of poker.
