Casinos Offer Promotions and FreerollsPoker Rooms Reward Loyal Customers |

Free money is so ‘in’ right now. As are free entries to some of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world.
With the slumping economy bruising The Strip, Las Vegas poker rooms are offering new promotions to keep their rooms active. Want to play in the invitation-only, star-studded National Heads-Up Poker Championship on NBC — normally a $20,000 buy-in — for free? How about the main event of the Wynn Classic? Instead of shelling out $10,200, you can play in the extravagant event for nothing.
Caesars and the Wynn are ironing out the details for their big freerolls, both of which will happen in early 2009. Caesars is offering the heads-up championship seat. To win, players must first log 50 hours in the poker room in January. Every eligible player will enter a free shootout tournament, wherein the top two players from every table will instantly make ‘the money’ and go on to phase 2 of the freeroll tournament.
Phase 2 takes the remaining players and squares them off in a heads-up tourney. The winner will get the $20,000 seat, while the rest of the players will divvy up the additional $80,000 prize pool.
The Wynn has confirmed that it will raffle off a minimum of 13 seats to its Wynn Classic, which features events ranging from $545 to $10,200 to enter. At least one seat will be for the main event.
Every hour a player logs in at the Wynn after Jan. 1 will get him a virtual ticket for the raffle. The raffle will have 13 scheduled drawings from Feb. 16-19. To win a seat, the player whose name is called must be in attendance during the drawing.
The two promotions are certainly amongst the biggest that Vegas casinos are featuring right now, but they aren’t the only ones.
Red Rock has a $300,000 freeroll, with a guaranteed $40,000 to first place, for all players who log at least 50 hours at its casino during November and December. Everyone who qualifies gets a minimum $65 reward. The casino also has a progressive bad beat jackpot, as well as special NFL Sunday promotions and high-hand rewards.
The Orleans is wrapping up the qualification for its big freeroll tournament. Players needed to log 80 hours in October and November for its $100,000 freeroll, wherein the winner is guaranteed $30,000. Every player who qualifies will get some kind of cash reward.
The Orleans also has a progressive bad beat jackpot, which starts at $75,000. A few weeks ago, the jackpot was hit for $118,000.
Want to win a free Harley-Davidson motorcycle? Then play at Planet Hollywood. Every time a high hand is hit (quads or better), that player receives between $50 and $599 (depending when that high hand was hit last) and five raffle tickets for the free motorcycle. Every other player at the table receives one raffle ticket. The Harley drawing will be Feb. 1.
Harrah’s, the Flamingo, and O’Sheas all offer cash bonuses to anyone who has quads or better, provided both holecards play. Harrah’s also has a $10,000 monthly freeroll for anyone who logs in 40 hours of play, and the Flamingo and O’Sheas offers a weekly $2,500 freeroll for any player who puts in at least 10 hours of play from Sunday to Thursday.
The Flamingo and O’Sheas also pay you off during specific hours if your aces or kings get cracked, and Harrah’s gives a lucky player some added cash every time an NFL football game concludes on Sunday.
Imperial Palace gives players $50 or $100 if their kings or aces get cracked from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. There are also progressive jackpots for straight flushes and royal flushes that start at $250 and $500, as well as a varying cash reward for quads.
Mandalay Bay has progressive high-hand jackpots and a high hand of the day that pays an additional $200 to whatever the high hand jackpot was worth (up to $500). The casino also has a progressive royal flush jackpot for each suit, which has been as high as $6,000.
Binion’s has a monthly $50,000 freeroll with a guaranteed $15,000 to first place. To qualify, a player either needs to log 25 hours during the month or win one of the casino’s tournaments.
The Rio features a progressive royal flush jackpot, as well as a weekly $12,000 freeroll with $2,100 to first place and the top 20 places paid. About 45 players play in that freeroll each week, having qualified from putting in at least 15 hours the previous week.
Not all casinos offer freerolls and promotions. Some casinos that currently do not offer anything are the MGM Grand, The Mirage, Bellagio, as well as most MGM casinos. The Hard Rock is in the process of setting up its weekly freeroll.
