Online Poker -- Peter 'twirlpro' Turmezy Wins Sunday MillionTurmezy Also Goes Deep at Full Tilt |
|
The Thanksgiving holiday weekend gave all of the major sites a bit of a boost in traffic but couldn't help a few tournaments from missing their guarantees. The live tournament action began to heat up at Bellagio, but most of the online community opted to stay in and grind in front of their laptops.
Card Player would like to give a special congratulations to former Card Player World Series of Poker tournament reporter Jameson "The Drake" Singer, who finished fourth in Full Tilt's Sunday Mulligan. While that final table alone is enough of an accomplishment to warrant a mention, Singer went one step further by simultaneously winning both Big Doubles the night before and picking up nearly $20,000 in bonuses as a result.
Interestingly enough, the Sunday Mulligan featured last week's winner, as well. Online player drunk mashimaro won the Nov. 23 tournament and nearly went back-to-back with a victory this week, as well. Ultimately, he fell just short after busting heads up to John "SkewpTroop" Clancy.
Over at PokerStars, tournament pro Matt "All_in_at420" Stout bested a field of 306 en route to the $200 rebuy title. He pocketed nearly $45,000 for topping one of the toughest fields of the week.

PokerStars Sunday Million
Last week, Danny "THE_D_RY" Ryan turned heads by not only winning the Sunday Million, but also making a deep run at the Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee. This week the accomplishment stayed the same, but the player changed, as Peter "twirlpro" Turmezy took down the top prize.
The tournament attracted 8,001 entrants, up 246 from the week prior. That total field generated a prize pool of $1,600,200, nearly an eighth of which was reserved for the eventual winner.
Notables to finish deep in the money included Eric "thanksb" Froelich, Brett "gank" Jungblut, Owen "ocrowe" Crowe, and Christian "charder30" Harder.

Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee
The biggest tournament on Full Tilt was also up this week as 3,668 players bought in. Unfortunately, that still wasn't enough to avoid an overlay, as the site put up $16,400 to cover the guarantee.
Among the red-named pros to make the money were Scott Fischman, Keith Sexton, Dave Colclough, and Ram Vaswani. Other notables to make a deep run were Matt "NoBadBeatsPlz" Kay, Hans "miAmihAns" Winzeler, James "mx4ever" Sloat, Brent "Bhanks11" Hanks, Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick, and the aforementioned Peter Turmezy, playing as breeth.
In the end, David "Doc Sands" Sands took out andressoprano to claim the $132,787 first-place prize.

UltimateBet $200,000 Guarantee
For the first time in quite a while, the UltimateBet $200,000 guarantee avoided an overlay. A total of 1,075 players put up the $200 buy-in to create a prize pool of $215,000. The dramatic field increase is due to the merging of Absolute Poker with UltimateBet on the Cereus network, a format that combines both sites' traffic to boost numbers and create more tables in the cash games.
UltimateBet pro Adam "ROOTHLUS" Levy represented for his site, cashing in 128th place. Other notables to go deep included Cliff "JOHNNYBAX28" Josephy, T.J. "WHATARUNAA" Slifka, Matt "CH0PPYPS" Kay, Lynn "SASSYTEXAN" Samples, and Steve "THORLADEN" Weinstein.
The final table was packed with pros, including Mark "DIPTHR0NG" Herm, Scott "YABOYSTU" Stewart, and Jon "PEARLJAMMED" Turner.

Bodog $100,000 Guarantee
The Sunday field at Bodog was up a bit, but not enough to avoid a $27,100 overlay. The 729-player field featured quite a few well-known pros, but the final table was pretty quiet in terms of star power.
When the final river had been dealt, the title was shipped to Balla686, as he took out MikeYall for the first-place prize of $23,600.
