The Netherlands Bankers Association (NVB) has said that the government’s policy on online gambling is protectionist and goes against European Union agreements according to a report on yogonet.com.
Michael Noordermeer, a spokesperson for the NVB, reportedly said of Justice minister Ernst Ballin’s plans to make banks block payments to and from online gaming sites, “The minister wants us to become an expansion of the legal system, but it is not the role of banks”.
Ballin has created a blacklist of sites it considers to be contravening Dutch gaming law which affords state monopoly Holland Casinos the sole rights to operate gambling in the Netherlands.
