Ken 'Handbone' MeyerKen “Handbone” Meyer is SpadeClub’s biggest winner of prizes and promotions to date after winning a $12,000 World Series prize package and the first Card Player Cruises Caribbean Adventure tournament on Dec. 1. Handbone had the opportunity of a lifetime when he was brought to Las Vegas in 2008 to play in the World Series main event, and he says it was a memory he will never forget. He is now also taking home a free seven-night cruise from Card Player Cruises throughout the Western Caribbean.

When asked what he thinks of SpadeClub, Handone replied, “It’s completely awesome! You guys rock! When I won the seat to the WSOP main event on SpadeClub, I achieved three or four lifetime goals in one trip. With my Caribbean cruise win on SpadeClub, I’ll be achieving two more lifetime goals. It’s amazing the prizes you can win playing poker at SpadeClub with nothing at risk.”

Card Player was able to ask Handbone a few questions about his future goals on SpadeClub and as a poker player.

Card Player: First off, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Ken “Handbone” Meyer: Sure. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. I’ve been playing no-limit Texas hold’em for a little under two years now. My dream is to be a sponsored pro one day for SpadeClub, my favorite poker site!

CP: Are you excited about your free seven-night cruise throughout the Western Caribbean on a Card Player Cruise?

KM: I sure am! I’ve had an interest in pirates since I was a kid. It’s always been a dream of mine to sail through the legendary Caribbean waters, and on a poker cruise ship of all things. I can’t imagine a better cruise anywhere else in the world!

CP: How do you feel about being one of SpadeClub’s biggest winners of prizes and promotions?

KM: I am mighty proud and grateful to be SpadeClub’s biggest winner! I represent SpadeClub with pride and dignity every time I play.

CP: Do you play poker live, as well? If so, where?

KM: I play both live and online. I’ll go through phases and just play one or the other for a while. I like a good mix of both, though. I play live tournaments at the local casinos here in Tucson and cash games at the new no-limit poker “Club Royale” that opened recently. I just stick to the $1-$2 table. Online, I like to play for big wins on SpadeClub and cash games on PokerStars.

CP: What was your first poker experience like?

KM: My first no-limit tournament cash was on DoylesRoom. I outlasted over 7,000 people to cash $2 on a freeroll. It seemed silly at first to everybody, but I knew right then that the ability to do that was worth a lot more than the $2 I won. Since that first cash on May 11, 2007, I have achieved combined cash, seats, and prize winnings totaling over $27,000. It’s mind boggling how much you can potentially win.

CP: What is your mindset like going into these tournaments that helps lead you to victory?

KM: There is a certain Zen-like state of determination and confidence that comes over me. It’s like I already know I’m going to win, and it’s just a matter of playing the right hands the right way at the right time. Patience wins tournaments, and it’s very difficult to maintain this mindset for hours at a time.

CP: What was the most important thing that you did to get your game to where it is today?

KM: I think joining SpadeClub was the most important thing I’ve done to get my game where it is. The point system and tournament structure guarantees that you have to play your best to win. There are also a lot of good players who you can make friendships with or have discussions with. It’s the perfect training ground with some of the greatest prizes available for you to win along the way.

CP: What are some of your other poker accomplishments?

KM: When I went to Las Vegas to play in the WSOP, I played several of the side tournaments that were going on. Although I didn’t cash at the WSOP, I had the best winning streak of my “career” so far. In six days, I played eight tournaments, made five final tables, and cashed for a little over $4,000.

CP: Anything else you would like to add?

KM: I would like to thank Barry Shulman and everybody at Card Player and SpadeClub for providing the opportunities of a lifetime! I look forward to one day representing SpadeClub as their sponsored house pro in poker tournaments all over the planet. That would be the ultimate dream come true!
