PartyPoker.com has announced qualifiers for the Irish Poker Championship taking place in Galway from Jan. 2 to 5, Mike Sexton2009. The first major tournament of 2009, being held in the Radisson SAS Hotel, Galway, has a €2,000 buy-in (9% withheld) and is set to attract some big guns in the form of Mike Sexton, Kenna James, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Noel Furlong, Benjamin Kang, Neil Channing, Alan Vinson, Mickey Wernick, and Women’s World Open champion May Maceiras.

Last year the event, which is televised on RTE television and distributed around the world, was won by local man Jude Ainsworth who lifted €100,000.

Local interest this year comes from Marty Smyth, Padraig Parkinson, Scott Gray, Liam Flood, Andy Black, and Donnacha O’Dea.

Sunday Jan. 4 sees the return of the charity event ‘Poker for the Homeless,’ where a €100 from each buy-in goes to help boost the €100,000 already donated to various homeless charities.

Ian Langstaff of Winmedia Ireland Ltd said, “We are delighted to be producing and transmitting coverage of the PartyPoker.com Irish Poker Championship on RTÉ again this year. The fact that RTÉ are transmitting eight episodes of coverage rather than the six they did last year shows the popularity of the IPC.”

The $250 +$25 online satellites take place each Sunday at 7:15 GMT where for every 20 players a package will be rewarded. Last weekend six packages were given away. Players can also qualify through feeder satellites from as little as $1.
