Marty Smyth has been doing Ireland proud on the poker scene this year. With over $2.6 million in his poker account from 2008 tournaments, he is the pot-limit Omaha world champion, the World Open winner, and the Poker Million king.
It’s not surprising then that the BoylePoker.com sponsored pro has been nominated for two awards at this year’s European Poker Awards — Best Tournament Performance and Player of the Year.
Smyth said, “I’m very flattered to be nominated. It’s a great honour but I’m up against some very tough and worthy competition. Winning one of the awards would really be the icing on the cake of what was a very special year for me.”
The other nominations for the Best Tournament Performance are:
Neil Channing
Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier
David Benyamine
Jesper Hougaard
Sebastian Ruthenberg
Peter Eastgate
His competition for the Player of the Year award includes:
Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier
David Benyamine
Andreas Krause
Neil Channing
Head of poker at Boylepoker.com, Paul Spillane, said, “We’re thrilled Marty has gotten the recognition he so thoroughly deserves. Even to be nominated is a great achievement. Now we hope he can go on for one more remarkable victory.”
The European Poker Awards 2008 will take place at Paris' swanky Aviation Club in January 2009.
