Europe’s hopes for a bumper Aussie Millions got off to a flying start when German Christian Heich won the $1,100 buy in no-limit hold’em event collecting AUS$150,000 (€77,000). The first event attracted a record 731 players and ended when he called his heads up opponent Steve Topakas’ double belly buster straight draw all in with a set of flopped jacks which held up.
In event three a couple of English-based pros, Jeff Duvall and Mel Judah, took centre stage. The $1,100 limit Omaha high-low attracted 111 players.
Duvall busted in third for $14,280 before Judah eliminated Rainer Quel heads up to collect the $30,000 first prize (€15,000) and a Championship ring.
Over a dozen events remain including the $100,500 no-limit hold'em challenge on Saturday Jan. 17 and the $10,500 main event beginning Sunday Jan. 18.
