Peter EastgateDay 1B of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Deauville event saw 343 players pony up the €5,000 buy-in at Casino Barriere on the Normandy coast in France. Among them some of the game’s most recognizable names, including Dario Minieri, Gavin Griffin, Luca Pagano, Noah Boeken, Peter Eastgate, Antony Lellouche, Thomas Fougeron, Bruno Fitoussi, Fabrice Soulier, Freddy Deeb, and former EPT Deauville champion Mats Iremark.

Also in attendance were the three Italians from the final table in Prague —  Massimo Di Sicco, Francesco Cirianni, and Salvatore Bonavena.

The action may have been a little slower than day 1A, but that didn’t mean it was insignificant. Dane Soren Kongsgaard knocked out Jean Luc Gauley with aces versus nines but was himself eliminated in the early levels.

Roberto Romanello ran aces into K-10 and came up against a flush while Frenchmen Anthony Lellouche and Alain Roy had no luck, and Andy Black, Julian Thew and Francisco Cirianni all hit the rail long before they would have deemed it necessary.

By mid-session, the big names were falling at a steady clip, including Gavin Griffin, Bruno Fitoussi, and Peter Eastgate.

Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, who is on a roll after his recent  €152,000  victory at the Euro Finals of Poker, made moves from the get go. After getting quite short-stacked early in the game, he managed to break through.

Sitting with K-J, and with Q-10 on the board, Devilfish was hoping for a straight and got it when ace came on the turn, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliottalso giving his opponent, who had A-K, two pair. All the money went in, and boy did Devilfish get value.

Things just got better from there, with Ulliott picking up blinds and bullying with his large stack at every available opportunity, confidence clearly oozing with a relaxed demeanor.

Eliminations late in the day included Alfonso Amendola, Luca Pagano, Max Pescatori, Maria Mayrinck, Salvatore Bonavena, Patrick Bueno, Fabrice Soulier, and Noah Boeken.

As the dust settled the in-form Devilfish was chip leader of the 248 strong field. The top 10 going into day 2 are:
