Texas poker legend Thomas “Amarillo Slim” Preston has been beaten and robbed while trying to secure collateral on an unpaid debt according to Associated Press.
The 80-year-old was lured to a field on the pretence of retrieving a four-wheel drive vehicle in lieu of a $3,000 gambling debt when he was assaulted receiving a broken jaw, hand and thumb.
The assailants took $8,000 in cash as well as a diamond ring worth $85,000 from the former World Series of Poker champion and Hall of Famer.
Amarillo Police Lt. Jim McKenny told AP that it, "...would not be that unusual for him to have that kind of money. I think it probably has to do with the clientele and people he tends to hang with in the gambling circles.”
