The victim of a burglary went to his local police station in England to report the crime only to be asked if he was there for the Keystone Kops waiting for news of a bust outpoker tournament according to a BBC report today.

Graham Hall had suffered a break-in at his home and went to Oxfordshire’s police headquarters to report the incident. When he arrived Hall told the BBC that he was “greeted at the desk by a security guard who said 'good evening sir, are you here for the poker?' I said I thought I had come to a police station and not a casino and told him that I'd like to report a theft.”

He was told he could not report the theft there as it was not an operational police station and was directed to Kidlington Police Station nearby. However it was closed. He then phoned a non-emergency crime line but the police did not show up at the scene of the crime until days later.

"I had no contact at all from the police until yesterday and today an inspector came to my house to apologise," said an incredulous Hall.

Thames Valley Police said the poker game was legal, operating in compliance with a license, and was a fundraiser for their Police and Sports Social Club.
