Antonio Esfandiari is crossing the pond to prove he's one of the world's top poker players.
He is set to join the
William Hill Grand Prix, which takes place over a 10-day period starting Oct. 18. Fifty-six players will battle each other in seven eight-man shootout heats for a piece of the $800,000 prize pool.
A shootout is a tiered tournament in which the winner of each table moves on and everyone who finishes under them is out. In this tourney, the winner of each heat advances to the final table.
A second-chance heat will then take place among a table composed of all the players who were runners-up in the regular heats. They will play down to one for the last slot at the final table.
William Hill added $200,000 to the prize pool, which comes from the television sponsors of the event. Popular players will include Gus Hansen, Surinder Sunar, Tony G, Juha Helppi, and Barny Boatman.
The tournament will be filmed by the same production company responsible for "Late Night Poker" and will be shown in Britain in December.
