Jennifer HarmanNearly 300 people played in one of the biggest charity poker tournaments of the year. In the end, Jennifer Harman’s charity poker tournament in Reno raised approximately $107,000 for the National Kidney Foundation.

Harman was hopeful that the new charity tournament would be successful in its first year.

“I hope it’s successful,” she told Card Player before the tournament. “I’d like it to be an annual event.”

After last weekend’s success, it seems very likely that the National Kidney Foundation would want the same thing.

The tournament attracted nearly 300 players. The tournament, which saw 297 players compete with more than 1,000 rebuys, raised $107,000 for special programs of the National Kidney Foundation that Harman had designated. Specifically, the top poker pro wanted the money to go toward “free-of-charge” patient programs, camps for children on dialysis, patient and family assistance, and research.

Harman has battled with kidney disease for most of her life, needing and receiving a kidney transplant at the age of 17 and again five years ago.

Besides the money raised by the poker tournament, the event also featured an auction that raised money for the charity. It is undetermined how much the auction raised, but a representative of the event said it likely raised an additional $10,000 more for the foundation.
