Day 1 of the World Poker Tour Foxwoods Poker Classic began on Friday at noon and just 259 players took seats in the tournament. As a result of the small turnout, the total prize pool was $2,436,930, and for the first time a WPT event at Foxwoods will award a first-place prize that is less than $1 million ($731,079). Here is a look at the full payout structure:

1: $731,079
2: $409,405
3: $214,449

A fair amount of pro players made the trip to the East Coast to play in the event, but a large chunk of the field made its exit on day 1, including Bertrand Grospellier, Nam Le, Matt Giannetti, Carlos Mortensen, Shane Schleger, Gavin Smith, Victor Ramdin, and Erik Seidel. Day 1 played out during five, 90-minute levels as the field shrank to 165, but due to the small field, subsequent days of the tournament may be shortened to fill out the six-day schedule for the event and accommodate the taping of the final table on Wednesday, Apr. 8. Here is a look at the leader board at the end of day 1:

Anthony Gregg1: Ken Adams -- 140,775
