Foxwoods Resort Casino announced plans to open a new poker room that will bring the number of tables from 76 to 114. The room, which will be located near the current poker area, will open in Spring of 2006.

The tables will be state of the art, using LED table components, automatic card shufflers and a computerized seating system that will allow the casino to more efficiently seat waiting players.

The room will be smoke-free and will also include a restaurant that will be able to seat more than 100 people. The expansion will allow the casino to add more weekly tournaments to its already ambitious schedule, as well as allow more players to enter the contests, thus increasing prize pool totals.

Foxwoods has hosted several World Poker Tour events and remains on the tour. It's the only poker venue in New England. The resort, which at 5 million square feet is the largest casino resort in the world, is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
