First Airings of Poker Show Generate Controversy

The Poker Show, the new online radio poker show presented by Padraig Parkisnon and Jesse May and sponsored by Boylepoker, has generated plenty of interest in its first three broadcasts with Phil Hellmuth giving the show a world exclusive, one caller cut off for drunken abuse, and online forums hopping with young players questioning the poker playing credentials of Parkinson.

Hellmuth, at the end of a 20 minute interview, gave the show its first world exclusive, telling the studio he had agreed to attend sensitivity training at the demand of World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack ahead of this year’s Series.

“Scotty [Nguyen] and I have agreed to attend... while they train their crews and their floor people for three hours,” said the Poker Brat. When asked if he thought that was going to be enough time, he replied deadpan, “No”.

Former European Poker Tour finalist Rory Liffey called the show late on Tuesday night but was cut off after a tirade of profanity, only to call the show back and abuse the hosts some more before announcing he would hang up on them this time. Which he duly did.

A memorable interview with Jeff Duvall was the highlight for many when he recounted a hilarious story of how he won a £15,000 pot in London’s Victoria casino the previous evening.

The show, which broadcasts each Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 8 to 11 p.m., featured a stellar array of guests in week one with Dan Harrington, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Sexton, Phil Laak, Rory Liffey, Liam Flood, ‘Mad’ Marty Wilson, Kara Scott, Donnacha O’Dea, Barny Boatman, James Dempsey and the Shrewdies on Tour, Black Belt graders, Paul ‘Dr. Pauly’ Maguire, Julian from Manchester, and John Duthie and Kirsty Thompson from the EPT, all calling in to chat with Parkinson and May.

Tom “Durrrr” Dwan was due to appear but he lost $2 million in the days preceding the show and was, perhaps understandably, unavailable when the studio called.

Boylepoker pro, Padraig Parkinson, was thrilled with the reaction the show had generated. “After a few technical hitches we really got into our stride quickly and I remembered just how much fun this could be. I have a feeling this is either all going to end in tears or we will have created a monster. Either way, I’m going to love it.”
