The PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open gets underway this Sunday May 24 to May 27, 2009 with 36 players taking part in the $3,000 event including Annette Obrestad, Sandra Naujoks, Jennifer Tilly, and Veronique Gourdon.
Returning to chase the $50,000 top prize will be last year’s winner Soraya Homam from Germany.
Obrestad, who will be viewed as a strong favourite in the tournament, said she was looking forward to the event. "This will be my first ladies only tourney that is televised so it will be interesting to see if that changes the way they play, and how I’ll have to adjust. Hopefully we’ll see some cat fights!”
Meanwhile Jennifer Tilly was looking forward to returning to the event, “I really enjoyed playing this event the last time I was here, and I’m looking forward to playing it again. It was a great competition with a good structure, and it was fun to match wits with some of the best female poker players in Britain.”
Eddie Hearn, Director of Matchroom Sport said, "The line-up for this year’s event is simply breathtaking. We have WSOP, WSOPE and EPT champs battling it out for what has become the biggest event in women’s poker.”
