Phil Ivey has done it again. He won event No. 25 ($2,500 Omaha eight-or-better/seven-card stud eight-or-better) at the 2009 World Series of Poker to take home $220,538 and his seventh gold bracelet just after midnight on June 14. This is the second bracelet that Ivey has won at the 2009 WSOP, his first victory came in event No. 8 ($2,500 no-limit deuce-to-seven lowball) on June 4.
Ivey now has seven bracelets in all, placing him in a tie for sixth place on the all-time bracelet list with Billy Baxter. He owns bracelets for wins in Omaha eight-or-better/seven-card stud eight-or-better, pot-limit Omaha, S.H.O.E., seven-card stud, seven-card stud eight-or-better, and no-limit deuce-to-seven lowball events.
Ivey topped Carlos Mortensen, Dutch Boyd, and Jon Turner at the stacked final table, while the Amazon Room buzzed with anticipation and excitement. The final day began with 14 players, and professionals Chad Brown (14th place), Blair Rodman (11th place), and Steve Wong (ninth place) all busted en route to the final table of eight.
Ivey came into the final table in seventh chip position, but he proved his poker dominance once again by coming back to win yet another bracelet. This is the second year in which Ivey has taken home multiple bracelets. He won three bracelets at the 2002 WSOP.

Peter Gelencser Eliminated in Eighth Place ($23,600)

Gelencser called a preflop raise to 20,000 by Dutch Boyd. The flop then came 9 2 2 and Gelencser led out with 10,000. Boyd raised to 20,000 and Gelencser moved all in for the rest of his stack. Boyd made the call and the players tabled their hands.
Boyd: Q Q J 6
Gelencser: A 7 5 6
Gelencser was drawing to the nut flush but the board ran out 3 and 9 and Gelencser was knocked out in eighth place.
Tom Koral Eliminated in Seventh Place ($27,993)
Omaha 8OB
Carlos Mortensen raised to 24,000 from under the gun and Ming Lee three-bet from late position. Tom Koral made the call from the big blind as well. The flop came A 6 6 and Lee led out with 12,000. Koral then raised to 24,000 and Mortensen called. Lee three-bet to 36,000 and Koral called the remainder of his stack into the pot.
Mortensen called as well and the turn was the K. Mortensen check-called a bet by Lee and both players checked the 10 on the river. Mortensen then showed J J 7 6 for a club-flush and Lee mucked. Koral showed down his losing hand, A 10 8 2 for two pair and he made his exit in seventh place.
Eric Buchman Eliminated in Sixth Place ($34,747)

Buchman moved all-in on fourth street with the board reading the following.
Buchman: X-X-10 5
Dutch Boyd: X-X-6 J
Ming Lee: X-X-2 J
After fourth street, Lee and Boyd fought over the side pot with Boyd leading out the whole way. After all was said and done, Boyd turned over his hand of (Q Q Q) 6 J 5 2 and Lee mucked. Buchman was showing 10 5 J 5 and turned over two of his hole cards, (K 2). He was drawing dead to Boyd’s three ladies. He mucked his river card and was ousted in sixth place.
Jon Turner Eliminated in Fifth Place ($45,237)

With the board showing 8 8 2 Q, Jon Turner was all in against Dutch Boyd and both players tabled their hands.
Boyd: A K 4 4
Turner: A K 9 2
Boyd held the nut-flush draw and a low draw while Turner was stuck with a mediocre two pair. The river brought the 6 and Boyd made his flush and low, managing to scoop the pot and show Turner the door in fifth place.
Dutch Boyd Eliminated in Fourth Place ($61,919)

Dutch Boyd was all in before any cards were distributed and Carlos Mortensen made the call. Their cards:

Boyd: (J 6) J 7 6 8 (Q)
Mortensen’s full house evicted Boyd from the tournament in fourth place.
Carlos Mortensen Eliminated in Third Place ($89,342)

Carlos Mortensen got it all in before the flop against Ming Lee, who had him covered. Their cards:

Lee: A K K 4
Board: Q 8 4 K 4
Leading the hand the entire way, Lee made a full house on the river, eliminating Carlos Mortensen in third place.

Ivey scooped the pot and his second bracelet of the 2009 WSOP, his seventh overall. Lee was eliminated in second place ($136,292). Ivey won $220,538 and he became the second player of the summer to win two bracelets, matching the accomplishment of Brock Parker.
