The poker community lost one of its most respected writers yesterday when Lee Munzer passed away. He was 66.
Munzer wrote for several sports publications and poker magazines, including Card Player. The news of Munzer’s passing was spread by WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla via email yesterday evening.
“It is with profound sadness to report the passing of Mr. Lee Munzer, from Las Vegas, Nevada,” said Dalla. “Those who were fortunate enough to know and remember Lee will forever be indebted to him for the benchmark of excellence he established within his profession and for the warm, gentle, and compassionate person he was to all who knew him.”
Munzer’s family and friends ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
There will be a memorial service on July 3 at 3 p.m. for Munzer in the Palm Mortuary in west Las Vegas.
Dalla touched upon Munzer’s direct writing style and the respect he earned from the poker media.
“He was highly-respected by his peers and loved by his readers for his sardonic wit, unique style of expression, and brutal honesty,” said Dalla. “He was even more adored by his family and hundreds of friends and colleagues.”
