Demidov Bests Eastgate in WSOP Rematch

Runner Up gets Moment of Glory for Beating Current Champ Online

Friday saw the online rematch of World Series main event champion Peter Eastgate and runner-up Ivan Demidov at PokerStars.com for charity.

Eastgate may be the current champ, but Demidov was no underdog and he proved that last year when he came second in the WSOP main event in Las Vegas and then third in the main event of the WSOP Europe in London. This heads-up however saw him finally come out on top.

The circumstances were exactly the same as they witnessed head-to-head in November 2008 with two exceptions — the amount of time they had to make their decisions was adjusted to PokerStars time allowances, and the levels were shortened to 30 minutes to suit online play.

Although Eastgate dominated for a lot of the tournament and Demidov experienced some connection problems, the Russian managed to take down the event and give $10,000 to his chosen charity, the Hospice Charity Fund “Vera” INN.
