The newly-formed International Federation of Poker, although only in its toddler stages, is already making a good impression on the poker community.
During the past three weeks, the founding group of seven national federations, led by its president, poker player and author, Anthony Holden, have had many meetings; the result of which has been the recruitment of 20 more, which will soon be announced. A special IFP Panel of Advisors representing each nation is also in the making. Poker personalities on board at the moment include US advisor Tom McEvoy, Irish advisors Andy Black and Alan Smurfit, Mel Judah for Australia, and Vicky Coren and John Duthie for the UK.
World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack praised the IFP’s ‘blue chip’ approach, and said that he is already in talks with the body and is interested in exploring whether there are “things we can and should be doing together”.
President of the IFP, Anthony Holden, said, “By this time next year the IFP should be a major force within the poker world and will, I hope, be making a significant contribution to international development of the game.”
