Svenska Spel, the state-run online gaming operator in Sweden responsible for online poker, has reported its first half 2009 figures which see a 16.4 percent drop-off in poker.

Net gaming revenues for the first six months of the year were SEK3.89 billion (€353.7 million) down two percent on the first six months of 2008 with the online division, including poker, retreating significantly.

Bingo fell 18.4 percent and lotteries dropped 9.2 percent. Sports betting fared best, slipping just one percent.

The company the main reason for the fall was the introduction of compulsory weekly limits on depositing which had the greatest impact on poker and bingo players.
