The Asian Poker Tour has published the full schedule for its Macau leg taking place from Aug. 12-23 at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau. Last year’s winner of the Macau main event was the then 20-year-old poker prodigy Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who took home US$500,000 and made a big splash on to the live tournament scene. The human poker machine then went on to win the WPT Championship.
The six-day event has doubled in size and is now a 12-day poker extravaganza filled with every kind of event imaginable and various guaranteed prize pools. Many of the events prove just how far poker has come in Asia over the last year. There are more than 20 in total with 14 official side events.
Not to forget the festival will also be the backdrop to the filming of, ‘Poker King,’ the first Chinese language poker film. This means not only will Macau see a vast range of famous poker faces but also numerous A-list Chinese actors, actresses, and pop stars.
Tom Hall, Chief Executive Officer of AsianLogic, owners of the Asian Poker Tour, said, “We’re delighted with this schedule — it really shows just how far the game has come in this part of the world. Our objective was to put player’s interests first in all scheduling as Macau will be a poker heaven in August!”
Some of the tournaments taking place before the main event kicks off on Aug. 20 are the HK$2,500 buy-in, HK$100,000 guaranteed welcome event, a $1,150 buy-in rebuy and add-on event with $50,000 guaranteed, a HK$2,500 buy-in “Greed” event which sees one player get the chance to take all of the HK$100,000 guaranteed prize pool if they wish, plus a $150,000 guaranteed super HK$1,150 rebuy and add-on tournament.
There are various events for every level of player; from HK$1,000 buy-ins to the HK$164,000 buy-in High Roller event. There are also headhunter, six-handed, eight-handed, celebrity, and invitational tournaments. The “Poker Pack” will take part in the headhunter, as well as other big names such as Johnny Chan.
Highlights include a team event called the Battle of the Nations which sees three representatives of each country attempt to eliminate members of other teams while six-handed, until just one remains; a ladies’ event; and a heads-up event — both believed to be a first for the region.
Tournament Director, Matt Savage, said, “This is an ambitious tournament schedule and there is something for everybody within it, there’s no doubt it is player friendly. Macau’s poker scene is booming and some of the formats will certainly be firsts for the region. The guarantees are great and it is exciting to see the heads-up and ladies event on the schedule. What shouldn’t be forgotten as well though is that The Asian Poker Tour hosts the most legendary parties — the one in Macau even won awards last year!”
Some of the online networks and online rooms sending players to this amazing festival of events are The Ongame Network, iPoker, PartyPoker, Bwin, PKR, 888, Titan Poker, and 32Red.
The last Asian Poker Tour took place in the Philippines in Jan. and saw a field of 263 from all over the world take part in the main event. It was Neil Arce who emerged triumphant in the end with US$185,000 for first place.
