A pet store owner from Maryland says he has his cat Sadie to thank for the his new Ferrari F430 Coupe. As soon as Sadie the cat jumped on Bruce Bartfeld's lap, his luck seemed to change in the PartyPoker.net freeroll that took place Dec. 3.
Sadie's luck was so good that Bartfield ended up outlasting thousands of online players to win the beautiful car that can go 0-60 in four seconds.
"I was really short-stacked," Bartfeld said. "Then Sadie decided to jump up and sit on my lap and my luck changed for the better. They say cats have nine lives. Sadie certainly gave me a lifeline."
The 52 year-old Maryland grandfather says he hasn't had a speeding ticket in years, but that might change after he takes possession of the car, which can go 195 MPH. His current car is a Chrysler Town and Country van.
This was the first online tournament Bartfield played in and he never played for real money online before. Bartfield's username, "best dragon," comes from the fact that he owns a pet store and breeds bearded dragon lizards.
"I rode my luck a lot in the tournament. Sometimes I went all in with very little and was just praying that others would fold. Luckily for me, they did. Thank goodness for Sadie," Bartfield said.
On PartyPoker.com -- PartyPoker's real money site - Jim Williamson, a 57-year-old railroad worker from Sebring, Florida, won the Ferrari tournament that took place for the real money players.
Instead of taking the car, he decided to take the $150,000 cash equivalent.
"I'm going to use it to pay off bills," said Williamson. "I think I'll never have a better day of poker than I did on the final table. I didn't hit a full house once and never had a hand which I'd consider to be the nuts. I won the money with ace high. I passed on the car even though I can see the Sebring Speedway from my back garden."
