Online Poker -- OPOY Weekly Recap -- Aug. 28, 2009Shaun Deeb Still Leads As Race Tightens |
|
The 2009 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is just days away, and the series promises to not only award huge payouts, but also turn the Card Player Online Player of the Year race completely on its head. Before all of the carnage begins, let’s go over the current status of the top 10 to see who’s making a push to the top of the leader board.
It’s been the case for most of the year, and it’s no different today: Shaun “TedsFishFry” Deeb (pictured left) is the No. 1 online player in the world, at least for another week. With 7,014 points, Deeb has a very slim lead on another tournament superstar, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman.
Moorman’s big boost came earlier this month when he finished second in the FTOPS XIII event No. 17 for $204,000. He is second only to frtk and Steve “gboro780” Gross in 2009 winnings.
After spending some time in second place, David “SirSands” Sands (pictured right) has been bumped back into third, but only by 44 points. Sitting in fourth place is the aforementioned Gross, who always seems to pull off a deep run in the bigger series events.
Rounding out the top five is Nick “GripDsNuts” Grippo. After the top five there is some separation, but a group of tightly placed players is just one big score away from taking over the lead. In fact, Jeremiah “believer82” Vinsant, Hunter “HEMIpowerSWT” Frey, and Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal are just six points apart in the standings.
