Gus Hansen wins legal battle for domain nameGus Hansen, the world-renowned poker pro from Denmark, has won a legal battle for ownership of the Internet domain name GusHansen.com over a cyber squatter who purchased it and attempted to fool people into thinking he was the real Gus Hansen.

Hansen hired Safenames, a domain name registrar and online brand protection company, to help him retrieve the name and through the Uniform Dispute Resolution Service they were able to prove that the domain name was registered in bad faith.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation found in favour of Hansen and against Yevgen Kudashov, saying he had had no rights or legitimate interests in the domain and ruled that the domain name should be transferred to Hansen, despite having been registered by Kudashov five years ago.

Head of counsel for Hansen, Prudence Malinki, said, “We are very pleased that Safenames was able to win this dispute for Mr. Hansen. I believe that that this ruling will pave the way for other famous individuals and celebrities to recover domain names registered to third parties who are profiting from registering domains that contain their famous personal names."
