Earlier this summer, PokerStars helped make Kent Senter’s lifelong dream come true.
The online poker site flew out Senter and his entire family from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas so that he could participate in the World Series of Poker main event. Now, PokerStars is hoping to do a little bit more.
The site has announced that it will run a $10 rebuy tournament tomorrow (Saturday) at 8 p.m. ET, with all proceeds going toward Senter, his family, and their growing medical bills. Senter suffers from multiple myeloma cancer.
The site reports that Senter’s illness has bankrupted his family, putting him two months behind on his rent, with his phone and TV already shut off. Senter was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2007.
“He is unable to pay for his medical bills, let alone support his family,” said Shala Girolami, a public relations representative for PokerStars.
Senter made an obvious impression on those players who met him at the WSOP in July.
“Kent is a great guy and has an amazing family,” said Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 world champ. “I had the opportunity to spend some time with them during the main event and really enjoyed getting to know them. It’s amazing that PokerStars sees their members struggling and steps up when appropriate to help out.”
While every single buy-in will go toward the family in need, PokerStars is adding quite an incentive for players.
The site will award a World Championship of Online Poker main event seat to the winner, worth $5,200. The runner-up will win a seat to the WSOP Academy, and third through sixth place will win tournament credit vouchers, ranging from $200-$1,000.
The tournament can be found under the ‘Private’ tab of the PokerStars ‘Tourney’ section, under the name Kent Senter Benefit Tournament.
