If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. If it is, well, then break out the duct tape. That’s what the producers of the NBC poker game show Face the Ace hope they have done with improvements to the program, which had poor ratings and widespread criticism after its debut in August.
Ending a month-long hiatus, the show will return this weekend on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET, rather than in its previous prime-time time slot on Saturday evenings. The biggest change is that instead of a weekly show, the program will air once a month as part of the NBC Sports lineup.
The premise of the Full Tilt-sponsored show will remain the same. Contestants will compete in a heads-up match against a Full Tilt pro for $40,000. Should they win, they will get the opportunity to decide whether to take the $40,000 or play another match against a different pro for $200,000. A win in the second match means the contestant can take the $200,000 and run, or play one more match for $1 million. Aside from the airing schedule, the other differences are subtle.
Show producer Mori Eskandani, who also owns the company that produces Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker, said in a statement on NBC Sports’ official website that, “Viewers of this week’s show will see that we’ve made some changes from the first two episodes which are designed to create even more excitement. For instance, the live audience, which is comprised mostly of the other qualifiers and their friends or spouses, will be far more vocal and have a greater role in maintaining a high energy level on the set.”
The following is the schedule for the remaining episodes of Face the Ace:
Sept. 12 — 2 p.m. ET
Oct. 31 — 5 p.m. ET
Nov. 14 — 3 p.m. ET
Dec. 12 — 3 p.m. ET
Jan. 2 — 2:30 p.m. ET
