Sammy George arrived late into the PokerHeaven.com European Cash Game and stole the show from his opponents. Before he arrived, it was Eric Liu and Andy Black who controlled the table, but George, eager to make up for his loss in the event last year, mixed everything up when he sat down.
The game was held at the Hospital Studios in Central London, and is due for broadcast in seven one-hour instalments on The Poker Channel every Friday at 10 p.m. (CET) from Oct. 9.
There were 10 countries represented by 11 highly skilled players such as Bruno Fitoussi, Leo Margets, Andreas Hoivold, and Jens Kyllonen, but not everyone could come out in profit after 12 hours of play.
Starting off with the minimum chip stack of €10,000, there were eight players left at the end of the day with George sitting comfortably above them all. August’s Card Player cover star, George did this with a simple J 10 on a K J 7 10 Q board by making a big bet against his opponents on the river to represent the flush.
Simon Munz laid down his set of sevens, and Andy Black, who had the nut straight with A Q had to let his cards go also.
The final results were:
Sammy George €44,075 (+ €24,075)
Simon Munz €22,550 (+ €12,550)
Andy Black €21,275 (+ €11,275)
Jens Kyllonen €20,725 (+ €10,725)
Francois Balmigere €11,275 (- €3,775)
Andrew Feldman €23,100 (- €6,900)
Eric Liu €22,575 (- €17,425)
Ricardo Sousa €6,950 (- €23,050)
Last year’s champ was Eric Liu after he beat a line-up which included Peter Eastgate and Neil Channing.
George said “Im ecstatic to have won, but it doesn’t stop here this is just the beginning." The Brit now prepares to take on Tom Dwan in the upcoming Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge.
